Shift_attitude
The love of old cars
was instilled in me at a very early age - especially that
of Datsuns. Having learned to drive on a '73 Datsun 1200 (the
"Peanut"), I also grew to love cruisin' around in
a cute little '81 210 ("L'il Red") and now my pride
and joy - SilverGirl - an '82 Datsun 280ZX which is the first
car I ever bought and hopefully the last! My great-grandfather
was a Pony Express rider as a kid, so the need for speed and
solo drives has been passed down through the generations.
. . shift_forward - to modern day.
Learning is a lifelong goal for me, and right now it's learning
how to fix my car. The parts car photos show I'm not afraid
to get up to my elbows in grease as long as at the end of
the day I know I've progressed in making sense of the inner
workings of an engine. What a great way to get to know my
car and others like it. My goal is rebuild my engine—with
help of course! I recently graduated with a Bachelor of Tourism
Management and now handle the sales and marketing of the largest
whale watching company in Victoria and want to pass on the
desire for learning among visitors and locals. . .the learning
of how killer whales and other marine mammals live in our
west coast waters. An indescribable sense of humility and
awe comes over me every time I see these beautiful creatures
do a "swim-by", as they travel past the boat I'm
on to points elsewhere.
I've travelled extensively across Canada—coast to coast
and up North—and have made several trips to various
states. Future travel goals include: Iceland, Scandinavia,
Patagonia, Antarctica, Scandinavia, and the British Isles.
How can you tell I'm not a hot-weather person? I know there
are Z clubs in Finland and other parts of Europe.
Getting outdoors is high on my list of activities. Snowshoeing
in the winter, and anything water-based during the summer.
I have been a competitive Dragon-boat paddler, gone whitewater
rafting down some pretty gnarly rapids, and gone back-country
camping. . .those are a few examples of what I've done. And
there's so much more to do!
Did I say I love Datsuns? I love road trips. I'm actively
involved in my local Datsun club and have met some incredible
people there—and they all love their Datsuns too! Oh
yes, Nissans of all stripes are allowed in too!
